Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah MacLean (Bareknuckle Bastards #1)

This is a back-catalog read for me as I wait for the follow-up to Bombshell to come out. (Which I loved and recommend to anyone who asks.)

This series proceeds the Hell's Bells by a year or two, so the main characters of that series are secondary here, which is a fun glimpse. I am so glad I went back into these works, this series is a bunch of fun. I have never been into Historical Romance because it is so limiting in terms of who and what women can be, but Sarah MacLean is different and so are her women.

I love a dark mysterious man, sneaking into rooms, hiding in shadows, using a silly moniker.

Devil charmed me from the moment he was dumb-struck by Felicity. He is all brawn and power, but he cannot deny her needs and wishes.

I did find some of the themes and even sentences repeated enough times that I noticed, but overall I enjoyed the flow of the book and the setup for future books.

I special shout out to the whispering bench scene as one of the most original ones I have read in a while.

Beast's story is next and you better believe I am already reading it. I also have a feeling that our villain is going to end up having a complicated story of his own.

This one is a "yes, please" for me. -Sky
